n Indonesian lecturer who was reported missing in Istanbul, Turkey, after attending an academic conference in Oslo, Norway, has been detected entering the United States via Boston, but neither his university nor his family knows his exact whereabouts.

Ahmad Munasir Rafie Pratama, a 37-year-old lecturer from Indonesian Islamic University (UII) in Yogyakarta, told his family that he was waiting to board a flight to Istanbul on Feb. 12 before they lost all communication with him.

UII rector Fathul Wahid said in a statement on Sunday night that the Foreign Ministry, based on information provided by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), had found proof that Ahmad entered the US via Boston Logan International Airport on Feb. 13.

However, Ahmad’s current location in the US remains unclear.

“UII does not yet know the reason why Ahmad headed for Boston on his return from Oslo via Istanbul, as opposed to returning directly to Indonesia. Until now, [we] have not been able to contact Ahmad,” Fathul said.

News first broke of Ahmad’s disappearance on Friday, when the Yogyakarta Police posted a missing person notice for the information technology professor on its social media accounts.
