n Indonesian lecturer thought to be missing after entering the United States via Boston was found by the Foreign Ministry and has resumed contact with his family and university.
Ahmad Munasir Rafie Pratama, a 37-year-old lecturer from Indonesian Islamic University (UII) in Yogyakarta, was thought missing, as he told his family he had been waiting to board a flight from Oslo to Istanbul, Turkey, on Feb. 12, and afterward lost contact with his family.
According to the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Ahmad entered the US via Boston Logan International Airport on Feb. 13.
“The Foreign Ministry and Indonesian Consulate General in New York established direct communication with AMRP. The Indonesian Consul General in New York also met with AMRP in person,” the ministry’s citizen protection director Judha Nugraha said in a statement on Friday, referring to Ahmad by his initials.
Judha said Ahmad was currently in the US and was safe. Ahmad also re-established communications with his family and UII and explained his situation, including his health.
Judha said the ministry would continue monitoring Ahmad’s situation and would provide service and protection as afforded to him as an Indonesian abroad.
“AMRP and his family requested privacy, and such a request must be respected. We urge for all speculation to cease,” Judha said.
