inance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati held a meeting on Friday with social media personalities and influencers in a bid to stem the fallout from the spotlight cast on the lavish lifestyles of some of the country’s tax officials.

The ministry said in a statement that the meeting’s attendees included comedian Bintang Emon, fiction writer Dee Lestari, political watcher Rudi Valinka and celebrity doctor Dr. Tirta.

Special staffer to Sri Mulyani Yustinus Prastowo said the meeting was aimed at getting input and constructive criticism from the social media personalities, given the outsize influence of social media in holding the government accountable.

"Last night, we received so much input, especially on tax collection and how to campaign on policies, as well as involving the public and the need to change the ways of communicating with the public," Yustinus said in a statement.

Over the past two weeks, Sri Mulyani has been subject to scrutiny following revelations that some tax and customs officials had been leading luxurious lifestyles that appeared misaligned with what their official positions could afford.

The revelations came after a social media firestorm over an assault case involving the son of a wealthy tax official in South Jakarta.
