he Bali immigration office has deported at least 76 foreigners this year, most for overstaying their visas, a provincial government official has said.
The head of the Bali Law and Human Rights Agency, Anggiat Napitupulu, said the foreigners had been deported for various violations of immigration law from the beginning of January to March 25.
“Mostly overstayed [their visas]. Some others misused the visa for work and committed crimes,” he said.
Foreigners who serve prison time for crimes in Bali are deported once they are released from prison.
The immigration team has intensified its supervision of foreigners across Bali amid a flurry of complaints about bad behavior from tourists.
The immigration team said it was targeting places across Bali with typically high concentrations of Russian tourists. This was based on an unsubstantiated perception that Russians contributed disproportionately to tourist misbehavior on the island.
