n Australian woman, identified by the initials MLD, has been deported by Indonesian immigration after a viral video showed her arguing with police officers who had reprimanded her for riding a motorbike without a helmet.

Ngurah Rai Immigration Office chief Rai Sugito said the 53-year-old Australian national was deported on March 31.

“We have deported a total of 40 foreigners within this year, including the Australian woman who went viral on social media for breaking the traffic law and arguing with the police,” Sugito said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that the immigration office would continue to monitor foreigners in the island province and penalize those who violated Indonesian laws.

The video clip of MLD arguing with police officers went viral on social media in early March. The incident occurred after she was caught riding a motorbike without a helmet during a routine traffic check on Jl. Tibubeneng in North Kuta, but refused to comply with the officers’ to stop.

“I’ve been living here for 23 years,” she is seen shouting to the police in the video clip.
