he Youth and Sports Ministry has struck a deal with the Bali provincial administration to allow for the World Beach Games to go ahead as scheduled on the resort island in August.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster said after a meeting with Youth and Sports Minister Ditto Ariotedjo and chairman of the Indonesian Olympics Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari that the Bali administration had fully thrown its weight behind the event, scheduled for the first week of August.
"There has been an agreement on Bali being the [World Beach Games] host and as the host, the Bali provincial administration will give its full support so that this event can go smoothly and will be a success," Koster said in a statement published by the ministry on Friday.
Missing from the statement was any mention of the event's Israeli delegation.
Having already refused to host the Israeli soccer team at the Under-20 FIFA World Cup in Bali, Koster earlier barred a sports delegation from Israel from taking part in August's World Beach Games.
Koster used the same argument he used to reject the Israeli football team's participation in the U-20 tournament, that Indonesia did not have diplomatic relations with the Jewish state, as the justification for his latest decision.
