inance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati arrived on Sunday at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, from an official trip to the United States and proceeded to exit the terminal through the regular arrival door, joining dozens of other international travelers.
The decision to use the regular arrival door was a move to conduct a spot check on the quality of services provided by the customs and excise office at the international airport, Sri Mulyani's aide Yustinus Prastowo said.
"Bu Finance Minister chooses the regular lane and joins with other passengers to ensure the smooth delivery of services by the Customs and Excise Office. She checks all stages in the process," Yustinus tweeted on Sunday from his handle @prastow.
Yustinus also said Sri Mulyani took the time to have a conversation with travelers arriving at the airport.
"Alhamdullilah [thank God], from testimonials made by migrant workers returning from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, [South] Korea and Japan, all have been taken care of well," Prastowo said.
Last week, Sri Mulyani flew to Washington, DC, to attend the International Monetary Fund and World Bank (IMF-WB) annual spring meetings, amid a brewing tax office scandal that has dealt a blow to the ministry’s erstwhile stellar reputation.
The minister left the nation on Tuesday right after she was grilled by lawmakers at the House of Representatives over more than Rp 300 trillion (US$20 billion) in suspicious transactions at the ministry over the course of 14 years.
