Director of special crimes at the South Sumatra Police, Sr. Comr. Agung Marlianto, confirmed that Lina had been named a suspect following complaints filed by a local religious leader in Palembang.
he South Sumatra Police have named Lina Mukherjee, a TikTok celebrity known for her travel videos, a suspect for blasphemy after she uploaded a video of her eating pork that involved her using Arabic phrases.
Director of special crimes at the South Sumatra Police, Sr. Comr. Agung Marlianto, confirmed that Lina had been named a suspect following complaints filed by a local religious leader in Palembang.
"Yes, she was named suspect yesterday for blasphemy," Agung told reporters on Friday.
Agung said investigators had made the decision after consulting with language experts and Muslim clerics from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
"We have confirmed with these experts whether Lina Mukherjee's content showing her eating pork could be considered a criminal act," Agung said.
A Muslim cleric in Palembang identified as M. Syarif Hidayat filed a police report earlier this week over Lina's pork-eating video.
Syarif complained that as a Muslim herself, Lina should not promote the habit of eating pork, which is prohibited for consumption under Islamic law.
