mid rising excitement over British rock band Coldplay’s upcoming first-ever concert in Indonesia, the Jakarta Police have arrested a married couple on charges of fraudulent ticket scalping, as reports of more fraudulent ticket transactions emerged from several other places outside the capital.
The husband and wife, identified only by their initials ABF and W, were arrested in their house in Bantul, Yogyakarta, said Jakarta Police director for special crimes Sr. Comr. Auliansyah Lubis.
The suspects are accused of having used a Twitter account to offer their services to purchase tickets for the concert, which is scheduled for Nov. 15 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Central Jakarta.
Auliansyah said their victims had to pay Rp 50,000 (US$3) as a deposit to secure the couple’s services. The victims were then put into a WhatsApp group and were told that their tickets had been bought.
“[The couple] then asked the victims to fully pay for their tickets within an hour. If the [victims] failed to do so, their Rp 50,000 deposit would [be forfeited],” Auliansyah told reporters on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
After all their victims had transferred the money for the Coldplay tickets, which range in price from Rp 800,000 to Rp 11 million, the couple then absconded with the money and deleted their WhatsApp number and Twitter account.
