resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo issued a statement on Monday praising singing sensation Putri Ariani for her outstanding performance at the America’s Got Talent (AGT) show and calling her an inspiration to the nation.
In the statement, posted on his Instagram account @jokowi on Monday morning, President Jokowi also urged Putri to aspire high in the competition and to further bring pride to her fellow Indonesians.
"Congratulations Putri Ariani, fly higher, reach your dreams and always bring Indonesia’s good name with you," Jokowi said.
The President said he watched reruns of Ariani's performance in the past couple of days and that he was proud of what she has achieved.
"This is just a start for Putri Ariani's long journey ahead," he said.
Seventeen-year-old Putri shot to international acclaim nearly overnight when her AGT audition on June 6 swept the reality show’s audiences and judges off their feet, leading her to win the highly coveted Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell.
Putri, who now attends music school in Yogyakarta, was born prematurely in December 2005 due to complications her mother experienced, and just three months later became blind.
