The world's soccer governing body FIFA has announced that Indonesia will host the U-17 World Cup from Nov. 10 to Dec. 2 this year.
The country's biggest stadium, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), is the concert venue of Brit-pop band Coldplay on Nov. 15, a scheduling conflict that will likely impact the venue's readiness to host matches for the tournament.
"We will find a solution. GBK is not the only stadium we have. We have JIS, Manahan [in Surakarta] and Jalak Harupat [in Bandung]," President Jokowi told reporters in West Jakarta on Monday.
JIS is the signature legacy of former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan, who is currently running as president with a platform of change.
Anies chose to hold Idul Fitri prayers in May 2022 at the compound of the stadium, along with thousands of Jakarta residents.
When the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) decided to join the bid to host the FIFA U-20 World Cup earlier this year, the federation decided to omit JIS from the tournament's list of venues.
