P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said on Monday that the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in North Jakarta could be one of the venues to hold matches for the FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled in November this year.

The world's soccer governing body FIFA has announced that Indonesia will host the U-17 World Cup from Nov. 10 to Dec. 2 this year.

The country's biggest stadium, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), is the concert venue of Brit-pop band Coldplay on Nov. 15, a scheduling conflict that will likely impact the venue's readiness to host matches for the tournament.

"We will find a solution. GBK is not the only stadium we have. We have JIS, Manahan [in Surakarta] and Jalak Harupat [in Bandung]," President Jokowi told reporters in West Jakarta on Monday.

JIS is the signature legacy of former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan, who is currently running as president with a platform of change.

Anies chose to hold Idul Fitri prayers in May 2022 at the compound of the stadium, along with thousands of Jakarta residents.
