The PDI-P chairwoman received an honorary degree in social science at a ceremony at the Tun Abdul Razak University (UTAR) campus on Monday.
un Abdul Razak University (UTAR) in Selangor, Malaysia, has awarded an honorary doctorate degree to the matriarch of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and Indonesia's fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri.
Megawati received an honorary degree in social science during an ceremony held at the UTAR campus on Monday.
UTAR president Ewe Hong Tat said Megawati had contributed to creating peace and prosperity in the region as well as improving bilateral ties between Indonesia and Malaysia.
The honorary degree was Megawati's 10th such award, seven of which were bestowed by universities and colleges outside of Indonesia.
In her speech after accepting the award, Megawati said the degree was a testament to her enduring quest for knowledge.
"I actually want to initiate the idea that young people, both male and female, [should] not tire and always try," Megawati said in her speech.
Megawati was joined by her daughter Puan Maharani and her son Prananda Prabowo on her trip to Malaysia.
