On Tuesday, the company announced on its Instagram account, @kai121_, that affected passengers could collect refunds at all stations up to seven days post-departure.
The refund program covers several conditions, including a full refund for those whose trains were delayed for more than one hour, those who canceled because they preferred not to travel by rail or made alternative transportation plans, and those who canceled due to a failure to make a train connection.
Passengers in the Suite Class compartment or Luxury train who transferred to Panoramic, Priority or Imperial brand trains are also eligible for a 50 percent refund.
Aside from compensating those whose trips were affected, Krisbiyantoro, the public relations manager of the PT KAI Yogyakarta regional office, gave an assurance that KAI would cover the medical expenses of those who were injured.
“The victims of Argo Semeru train crash will also be provided with compensation,” Krisbiyantoro said. “Yes, [KAI] will cover medical expenses and so on because the ticket also includes insurance,” he said.
