Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko asserted the need to reassess threat patterns and a corresponding military system of the new capital in East Kalimantan.
he new capital city of Nusantara demands a robust and adaptable defense system capable of navigating the ever-evolving threat landscape, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said on Thursday.
As the country’s historical focus on threats is on the Java region, this has resulted in a concentration of military forces there. However, with the relocation of the national capital to East Kalimantan, a reassessment of threat patterns and a corresponding shift in military deployment is necessary.
Moreover, Moeldoko explained that the region lies within the operational range of three United States military capabilities: strategic bombers, fighter jets and cruise missiles.
It is also within the range of China’s ballistic missiles, fighter jets and bombers.
“The vulnerability of Nusantara requires us to adopt the concept of smart defense,” Moeldoko said, as quoted by Antara news agency.
“It’s time for us to reconstruct what kind of military force we need to bring to the new capital.”
Moeldoko stressed that the city’s defense system was a part of the broader national defense framework. The military development should align with the country’s defense plan based on threat assessments and capability advancements.
