Gerakan Rakyat, the volunteer organization supporting the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar, said on Wednesday that it would focus on strengthening the campaign’s Java network for the next 10 days.
Coordinator Sahrin Hamid said the organization’s focus was on winning at every polling station on the island.
"All of our focus must be in accordance with the right timeline, meaning that the closest is Java Island," Sahrin said in an interview at the campaign secretariat in South Jakarta, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Sahrin said the majority of Anies’ votes would come from Java, particularly Banten, Jakarta, West Java and East Java.
To leverage this, he aimed for Gerakan Rakyat to form networks down to the subdistrict or village level for the next five to 10 days.
Sahrin hoped to have at least 10 volunteers from Gerakan Rakyat stationed at each polling station on the island, with each volunteer doing their part to secure votes for Anies and Muhaimin in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Nationally, the organization aims to have volunteers posted at more than 820,000 polling stations.
