Indonesia Decides

Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo says he is not intimidated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s son Gibran Rakabuming Raka running in the 2024 general elections as a vice presidential candidate.

“It’s okay. I don’t feel intimidated because the voters already know,” Ganjar said during his visit to Wonosobo, Central Java, on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.

The remark came after reports of Gibran’s running mate, presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto targeting voters in areas dominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the supporting party of Ganjar and his running mate Mahfud MD.

Historically, the PDI-P is the dominant party in Central Java.

Ganjar, a former Central Java governor, said that Central Java gave the most votes to the PDI-P in the two previous elections.

He said he would still make efforts to win many votes by listening to the public’s aspirations, saying that he would realize all promised programs and visions if elected.

In the 2024 election, Ganjar has set a target of 60 percent of voters in Central Java, down from the 70 percent target in the previous election.
