Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo has welcomed Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) chairman Kaesang Pangarep’s plan to run for governor of Central Java next year.
"Good, [I’ll] be watching. It's interesting," Ganjar said in Wonosobo, Central Java, on Monday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Ganjar declined to discuss the matter further.
On Sunday, the 28-year-old Kaesang, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s youngest son, said he had no problem running for governor of the province. He was attending an event titled "Car Free Day with Plate K Volunteers for an Optimistic Generation" at Jepara Square in Jepara, Central Java, on Sunday.
“Plate K” refers to vehicle registration plates that begin with the letter “K”, which designates cars registered in the Central Java regencies of Blora, Grobogan, Jepara, Kudus, Pati and Rembang,
Kaesang’s wife Erina Gudono expressed support for her husband.
"I will support him in all ways, including prayers, continuing moral support, advice, all that is good for Mas Kaesang," Erina said.
