Prabowo halted his speech at the declaration of support event to invite supporters to pray for the people of Gaza who have fallen victim to the ongoing Hamas-Israel war.
Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto asked those attending a declaration of support event organized by the Islamic Young Generation (Gemuis) Caucus on Monday to pray for the safety of the people of Gaza in Palestine.
“Let’s pray with our hearts that our brothers and sisters in Gaza will be given help by the Almighty and be protected from the bombings and massacre attempts,” said Prabowo in the middle of his speech, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Participants at the event, mostly Muslim youths who have declared their support for Prabowo, fell silent as people bowed their heads and prayed following the presidential candidate’s invitation.
After the prayer was over, Prabowo continued his speech.
Prabowo said every liberation required relentless effort, and every country must have the strength to prevent them from being overpowered by stronger nations.
“If we are weak, we will be oppressed. Because there is no other choice, we have to be strong,” he said.
He added that power was not only related to the military but also to a nation’s economic, social and cultural aspects. If these elements are strong, he said, the country would not easily be compromised by the influences of ideologies or foreign countries.
