Party leaders backing Anies' 2024 presidential bid, as well as a senior government official, have dismissed a claim of an impending mass cabinet departure made by Gelora politician Fahri Hamzah, known for his contrarian remarks, as mere rumormongering.
The political parties grouped in the Coalition of Change for Unity (KPP), the electoral alliance backing Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar in the 2024 presidential election, have dismissed a rumor reportedly started by seasoned politician Fahri Hamzah that their politicians would be resigning from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s Onward Indonesia Cabinet.
In a social media post on Thursday, Fahri said “presidential candidate no. 1” would announce that the parties backing his candidacy would be stepping down from their ministerial posts this week.
The Anies-Muhaimin pair has been assigned No. 1 as their ballot number by the General Elections Commission (KPU).
“This move is to solidify their position as the opposition in the coming elections,” Fahri wrote in his post on X, formerly Twitter, albeit with a disclaimer that people should verify the information with Anies and his campaign team.
Fahri is deputy chairman of the Indonesian Gelora Party (Indonesian People’s Wave Party), a newcomer in the 2024 elections and a member of the Indonesia Onward Coalition (KIM) backing rival candidate Prabowo Subianto.
Prabowo’s running mate is Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the President’s eldest son.
