Densus 88 was involved in a shoot-out that killed two terrorist suspects in Lampung earlier this year. Throughout 2023, the counterterrorism squad has apprehended 142 terrorist suspects.
he National Police’s Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) counterterrorism unit took down two terrorist suspects in Lampung on Apr. 12, 2023, the unit said on Wednesday.
“I’m reporting that the incident, in which the two suspected terrorists were killed, occurred during the arrest of the Lampung [terrorist] group,” Densus 88 spokesman Sr. Comr. Aswin Siregar said at the National Police’ Criminal Investigation Agency building, on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Aswin said that the two suspects, who died in a shootout with Densus 88 operatives, were identified as N (or BA) and ZK, and belonged to the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) group.
These individuals were part of the 142 terrorist suspects apprehended by Densus 88 throughout the year.
Aswin also said that most of the arrested terrorists were men, and four were women.
Meanwhile, National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan, said that Densus 88 investigators were still examining 16 suspects, 101 suspects had entered the dossier process and the remaining 23 suspects will soon undergo trials.
Of these, 29 suspects were linked to the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) and Anshor Daulah (AD) networks. They also arrested 49 people from a group led by a terrorist identified as Abu Oemar (AO), seven from Jamaah Anshorut Syariah (JAS) and five from the Islamic State of Indonesia (NII), Ahmad said.
