During a campaign event in Blora regency, Central Java, presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo admitted that he has been stepping up his campaign in Central Java to fend off rival candidates.
Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo has acknowledged that he is intensifying his campaign in Central Java as rival candidates contend for votes in his political stronghold.
In the last two weeks, Ganjar has been undertaking a political tour of various regions of Central Java, campaigning and holding dialogues with locals, traditional market traders and farmers.
"We have to secure our own home as there are other candidates who will also concentrate [their activities] in the Central Java region, apart from East Java and West Java," Ganjar said in Blora regency, Central Java, on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
Ganjar described Central Java as one of the “bullpens”, referring to the region’s position as a stronghold of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), which features a bull on its logo.
According to Ganjar, the bulk of votes in elections is typically concentrated in West Java, Central Java and East Java provinces, therefore each presidential candidate pair and their supporting parties will focus on these regions during the campaign period.
"Central and East Java are bullpens, our home, so we need to secure them," he said.
In addition to securing his political base, Ganjar claimed that his recent intensive campaigning in Central Java was also due to his longing to revisit areas he once led as governor.
