Gibran is taking a three-day leave for campaign purposes. In Maluku, he talked about his plans to develop remote regions by expanding internet access.
Vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka requested a three-day leave from his position as the mayor of Surakarta for campaign purposes from Monday until Wednesday.
The Surakarta city administration’s protocol and leadership communication bureau head Herwin Tri Nugraha said that Gibran’s leave was already approved by Central Java acting governor Nana Sudjana.
"Three days of leave for campaigning in Maluku and Bali," said Herwin, as cited by the Antara news agency.
Gibran was seen engaging in his mayoral duties on Friday to swear in 121 civil servants for their tours of duty. He said that the city administration used the merit system to determine who could go through the change in position.
For his campaign in Maluku, Gibran's first order of business was to meet with the local leaders. He said that his plan for Maluku was to open and expand internet access in the province.
"We want to have an equal development; opening new access and connectivity as Maluku is an archipelago," Gibran said in Ambon on Monday in a written statement, as quoted by the Antara news agency.
"We want to have new points of economic growth so that the growth is not limited to Java."
