Ganjar offers free filming licenses and a grand plan for the creative economy, in the hope of nurturing filmmakers in Indonesia.
Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo pledged on Monday to waive licensing fees for domestic movie shoots, saying that it would motivate filmmakers to further explore their craft.
"People will definitely come [to various regions in Indonesia] to be able to express their talents," Ganjar said, as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said the domestic film industry was doing well but it still required facilities such as easier licensing.
He said he was disappointed with the time needed to obtain a license for shooting in Indonesia.
"I was a little angry. Not really angry, but a little angry when I got a report from a film producer who wanted to use an area,” he said.
“First, it took a long time to get a license. Second, they got extorted for parking and permission [to use the area]. The point is that there are no actual tariffs, they just pay whatever.”
In addition to issuing shooting licenses for free, Ganjar and his running mate Mahfud MD have introduced a grand plan for the creative economy, which includes incentives and access to capital for creative economy players.
