Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo reminded his supporters to maintain order when participating in campaign activities, citing the incident in Boyolali as a lesson.
Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo urged all his supporters to maintain order when participating in campaign activities, especially when campaigning in the streets.
Underlining the importance of peaceful campaigning, the former Central Java governor reminded his supporters of an incident last month where a group of volunteers were assaulted.
"There have been several incidents [which have led me to] remind us to obey the rules,” said Ganjar when consolidating with supporting parties and volunteers in Purwokerto, Central Java, on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
“The Boyolali incident adds a dark record to the democratic process,” he said.
Several volunteers for Ganjar and running mate Mahfud MD were victims of an alleged assault by Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers in Boyolali, Central Java, on Dec. 30, 2023.
The incident occurred after the soldiers of an Army infantry unit were purportedly disturbed after the volunteers passed in front of their barrack in a convoy of motorbikes while revving their engines loudly with modified exhaust pipes.
An altercation ensued when the soldiers tried to disperse the volunteers and stop them from making so much noise.
