Prabowo Subianto said he planned to build downstream factories for palm oil derivative products and promised that Indonesia would have its own locally made electric cars should he win his presidential bid.
Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto pledged to build downstream facilities for derivative palm oil products during his campaign in Pekanbaru, Riau province, on Tuesday.
The incumbent defense minister also unveiled his plan for Indonesia to produce its own electric cars if elected.
He said Indonesia had predominantly exported palm oil raw materials at low prices. The establishment of these downstream facilities would aim to enhance the market value of derivative products from palm oil raw materials.
Prabowo was confident that this program would improve the welfare of farmers and benefit society at large.
He also emphasized the need to prioritize the people, particularly the most vulnerable, saying that farmers needed to receive assistance and that poverty must be eradicated in Indonesia.
"We don't want the products of our natural wealth to be sold at low prices. We will downstream our natural wealth,” he said at Sudirman Sports Hall as quoted by tempo.co.
“Mining products, minerals, palm oil. In Indonesia, especially Riau, which is a major palm oil producer, we will build palm oil processing factories."
