The productivity of the House of Representatives has declined notably in recent months, an NGO report has found, as political parties turn their focus toward campaigning for February’s presidential and legislative elections.
The report, released on Monday by Indonesia Parliament Watch (Formappi), noted a decline in performance in the House’s previous sitting period, from Oct. 31 to Dec. 5, 2023, as the majority of lawmakers were running in the February legislative election.
The researchers found poor performance in the body’s lawmaking, budgeting and supervision responsibilities, rating its productivity as a whole a mere 13.51 out of 100.
“This [score] is beyond poor for an institution that is supported by an extraordinary budget and facilities,” wrote Formappi’s Lucius Karius in the report.
