Anies Baswedan hosted a large campaign rally in Yogyakarta, reiterating the spirit of change and cautioning against authoritarianism.
Presidential hopeful Anies Baswedan championed a narrative of change during his grand campaign in Yogyakarta on Tuesday by holding a mass rally at the Jambidan Field in Banguntapan district, Bantul regency.
Anies was greeted by supporters and Bantul Regent Abdul Halim Muslih, and was accompanied by representatives from the NasDem Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Ummat Party.
During his speech, Anies brought up the increasing food prices as well as the growing prevalence of corruption in the current status quo.
"We need change on Feb. 14. Are we going to continue what we saw earlier? Do we want to persist, and what does that mean we must do?" Anies inquired, as quoted by the detik.com news portal.
Anies then called for changes to various conditions in the country, which he considers to be at a “crossroads.”
"We do not want this country to be governed like a family; this is not a country that belongs to someone. This is not a country that belongs to one family. This is a country that belongs to all Indonesian people," Anies said, as quoted by cnnindonesia.com.
Anies also emphasizes the need to prevent Indonesia from becoming an authoritarian state.
