"We’re also talking about, for example, the economy. Everything that we present in our vision, mission and program, none of it is solely for men, all of it is for women too," spokeswoman Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo told Antara news agency on Tuesday.
The national campaign team spokeswoman for presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka has said their programs will be gender inclusive.
"We’re also talking about, for example, the economy. Everything that we present in our vision, mission and program, none of it is solely for men, all of it is for women too," spokeswoman Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo told Antara news agency on Tuesday.
She was responding to a question about the role of women in the candidates’ vision.
Rahayu, a women's activist, said she preferred not to treat women's issues as exclusive to women. She said they were part of human rights as a whole.
She also claimed the Prabowo-Gibran camp operated on a principle that all their programs should benefit both men and women. She said initiatives such as job creation and providing nutritious school lunches were designed to serve the needs of both genders.
"This is why, in the vision and mission of the Prabowo-Gibran program, there is no notion like, 'Oh, it's only specifically for women'. No. Everything we discuss is for the Indonesian people, including men, women and children," said Rahayu, the daughter of tycoon Hashim Djojohadikusumo and Prabowo’s niece.
Hendy Setiono, a Prabowo-Gibran national campaign team member responsible for young voters, made a similar assertion when accepting a declaration of support from a group of mothers and people with disabilities in Jakarta on Monday.
