NasDem Party chairman Surya Paloh and former vice president Jusuf Kalla attended presidential candidate Anies Baswedan's campaign rally on Sunday in Tegallega Field, Bandung, West Java.
Anies said that Surya and Kalla’s attendance at the rally was a sign that Indonesia needed to change.
"When Pak Surya Paloh decided to initiate a movement, many people were skeptical. However, he foresaw the need for change in this country 1.5 years ago," he said, as cited by kompas.com.
"[Meanwhile] Pak JK has experience in various leadership roles, having been involved in the government for more than 25 years. He precisely understands the current situation and has concluded that there should be change in this country."
Anies said he believed that Indonesia needed to change for the better. Should he be elected as president, he promised he would protect democracy and uphold the law.
Anies emphasized not only the continuation of democracy but also his unwavering commitment to uphold the rule of law. He wanted to prevent Indonesia from regressing to the era of feudalism.
During his campaign in Bandung, Anies also talked about the potential of the West Java provincial capital to become a hub for the creative industry, thanks to the presence of abundant creative talent.
