Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan expressed his confidence in winning over voters in Madura, citing the Madurese people’s inclination toward change.
Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan and his running mate, Muhaimin "Cak Imin" Iskandar, held a campaign rally in Madura on Wednesday.
Upon arriving in Sumenep regency, East Java, Anies expressed his confidence that the Madurese people supported him and Muhaimin.
Anies’ confidence stemmed from his belief that the Madurese people are known for being open, loyal and having the bravery to pursue change, which the pair repeatedly promote in their campaign.
"In Madura, I'm sure the people are on the side of the notion of change," said Anies, as quoted by cnnindonesia.com.
Anies claimed that his vision of change suited the people of Madura, whose principle is to keep migrating to get a better life, adding that the Madurese were scattered across the country.
The former governor of Jakarta also affirmed that should he be elected, he would ensure that the central government considered the needs of the Madurese people in policymaking.
He said there was still a discrepancy in how laws were upheld in different regions.
