The campaign teams of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN) and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD have alleged that social assistance (bansos) distribution was being politicized by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to benefit a certain candidate pair in this year’s presidential election.

“Looking at this, it does indeed benefit candidate No. 2 [Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka] because of his association as the father of Gibran,” Tatak Ujiyati, a spokesperson for the AMIN campaign team said on Wednesday, as reported by cnbcindonesia.com.

Tatak said there were several factors leading to this conclusion, citing the direct cash assistance (BLT) for food risk mitigation, which would be distributed to 18.8 million recipients in February.

The BLT targets those affected by the extended drought caused by the El Niño weather phenomenon.

However, Tatak pointed out that the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had declared that the effects of El Niño would subside by early February.

“Why now? Why is it being paid now when the El Niño impact is no longer present?” Tatak questioned.

Additionally, Tatak questioned the Jokowi administration’s method of distributing social assistance.
