The national campaign team of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin (AMIN) said the candidate pair is committed to empowering state-owned enterprises (SOEs) instead of dissolving them.

"AMIN is committed to strengthening the role of SOEs. There is misinformation saying that AMIN would dissolve SOEs and replace them with savings and loans cooperatives; this is incorrect," Awalil Rizky, a member of AMIN's campaign team advisory council, said on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.

He said AMIN wanted to strengthen SOEs’ standing by reforming their governance.

"What kind of reform are we talking about? To put it simply, it is good corporate governance [GCG]," said Awalil, as quoted by Antara news agency.

Furthermore, Anies and Muhaimin will also ensure no conflicts of interest among the executives of SOEs or in their projects.

With this, they expect that SOEs will improve the welfare of the citizens rather than benefiting only a specific group of people.

Meritocracy should be applied in recruiting employees and executives. Awalil said that, with this approach, Anies and Muhaimin would not choose leaders for SOEs based on personal relationships or favoritism. Instead, individuals aspiring to lead these enterprises should undergo thorough assessments.
