White-collar workers gathered in front of SCBD to hold a protest on Monday, denouncing power abuses that violate Pancasila and the Constitution.
group of white-collar workers styling itself Professionals Demand Justice (MPM) staged a protest in front of the Indonesia Stock Exchange Park in Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), South Jakarta, on Monday, calling for an end to what they described as the "civilizational emergency" in Indonesia.
The protesters claimed that the democratic process in Indonesia had been eroded by practices that did not uphold truth and justice. They also expressed their concerns about President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration.
"The MPM consists of friends who work in their respective fields who share the same worries, disappointment and anger as the general public, especially among students and in universities," the initiator of the movement, Antonius Danar, said on Monday, as quoted by kumparan.com news portal.
According to Danar, the SCBD was chosen as the location of the protest because it represented the professional classes. He hoped that office workers in the Sudirman-Thamrin area would follow in their footsteps.
The rally only lasted for 15 minutes before the protesters dispersed after stating five demands regarding the current state of the nation.
First, the MPM denounced the Presidential Palace and its allies for actions that undermined the nation and state in every aspect. They asserted that such actions contravened Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
Second, they also declared that any fraud or abuse of power was a democratic and constitutional crime, and thus they called for a restoration of democracy and the ethics and morals of Pancasila.
