Former KPU commissioner Hadar Nafis Gumay warns of possible election fraud following multiple issues with the Sirekap vote-counting app. He urges transparent audits and public clarification.
A former commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hadar Nafis Gumay expressed concerns about the possibility of election fraud due to the issues plaguing the official integrated vote-counting and tabulating app Sirekap.
Hadar, who is also executive director of elections watchdog Network for Democracy and Electoral Integrity (Netgrit), said the incomplete and inconsistent data entered on Sirekap could be exploited by certain parties to manipulate the votes in their favor.
"It is very possible [there is election foul play]. I do not know for sure. But it is very possible because the data is not complete, and then there is an effort to stop it," Hadar said on Tuesday, as quoted by cnnindonesia.com.
Hadar raised concerns about claims of a sudden and significant surge in votes for certain candidates.
“There is speculation that this particular party only had a few million votes yesterday [on Monday], but that number has multiplied into the millions now," he said.
While acknowledging the lack of concrete evidence of foul play at this point, Hadar reiterated the importance of an independent and expert-led Sirekap audit.
He stressed that the KPU needed to demonstrate trustworthiness in addressing these concerns by ensuring a transparent audit process.
