Some polling stations hold delayed voting, revoting

Hundreds of polling stations in several regions were opened this week for voters who were unable to vote during the Feb. 14 voting day due to disasters and other challenges, while thousands of others held revotes following findings of alleged electoral violations.

As of Tuesday, the General Elections Commission (KPU) recorded that at least 867 polling stations in 242 villages or subdistricts would hold supplementary voting until this weekend. The figure is higher than the initial reports received by the poll body of 668 polling stations.

Delayed voting or revotes should be held until 10 days after the slated voting day of Feb. 14 at the latest as mandated by the 2017 General Elections Law, said KPU commissioner Idham Holik.

A number of polling stations across the country experienced unexpected delays due to floods and other logistical problems, forcing election organizers to postpone voting in these locations.

Around 1,130 voters in four polling stations in Tangerang city, Banten, cast their ballots on Sunday after flooding deluged their stations during voting day.

“The process is the same. Only the day has changed,” said Suhanda, a local poll administrator (KPPS) for a polling station in Larangan district, Tangerang, in a statement released by the city administration.
