total of 53 families of the Sriwijaya Air fight SJ182 airplane crash victims have departed for Seattle in the United States to attend a deposition for their compensation claim lawsuit against Boeing. The families departed on eight groups beginning on Thursday morning.

The deposition, which is the taking of out-of-court testimony for use in a trial, is being held ahead of the lawsuit hearing scheduled for July.

C. Priaardanto, the attorney representing the families, said the information taken during the deposition aimed to convey to Boeing that the families were severely disadvantaged by a product defect in the Boeing 737-500, the aircraft used on flight SJ182.

According to Priaardanto, the case had seen slow progress since 2021 as the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) had been slow in investigating the accident.

Sriwijaya Air flight SJ182 crashed in Thousand Islands waters on Jan. 9, 2021, killing all 62 passengers and crew on board.

The airplane, with registration PK-CLC, was serving the Jakarta-Pontianak route.
