The state-owned electricity company will grant the discount to certain customers in West Sumatra, as the province's governor calls for a prompt solution to the power issue.
tate-owned electricity company PLN’s main distribution unit (UID) in West Sumatra has said it will offer a 10 percent discount to certain customers in the province in compensation for a major power outage that occurred on Tuesday.
PLN UID West Sumatra general manager Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho said in Padang that he hoped the compensation would assuage public anger.
"[For those who experienced] an outage of more than eight hours, we will provide a 10 percent discount," Eric said on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Eric said PLN had records of the customers who had experienced outages of eight hours or more and promised that they would be provided compensation.
He said the discount would be applied to bills for July and that it would help make up for the losses experienced by customers.
Eric noted that the province’s power supply had returned to normal as of 12:53 a.m. on Thursday.
Meanwhile, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi said he had coordinated with PLN’s UID to ensure that the recent total blackout received serious attention given its significant impact on the community.
