The KPK says its investigators are on the verge of capturing graft fugitive and former PDI-P politician Harun Masiku, who has been on the run for four years, while party chief Hasto has leveled accusations of maltreatment against investigators for his treatment during questioning.
he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Tuesday that it was edging closer to capturing graft fugitive Harun Masiku, a former Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician who has eluded investigators for the past four years.
KPK deputy chairman Alexander Marwata said he believed that investigators already knew where Harun was hiding.
“Hopefully, he will be captured within a week,” Alexander said on Tuesday on the sidelines of a meeting at the House of Representatives, as quoted by Kompas.com.
Harun, along with PDI-P politician Saeful Bahri, is accused of bribing then-commissioner Wahyu Setiawan of the General Elections Commission (KPU) in exchange for a legislative seat that was left vacant after a PDI-P member died.
Saeful, Wahyu and Agustiani Tio Fridelina of the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) were found guilty of corruption and sentenced to between 1.5 years and seven years in prison.
But Harun has remained at large since the KPK named him as a graft suspect on Jan. 9, 2020, three days after he had reportedly fled to Singapore.
KPK interim chairman Nawawi Pomolango said it was just a matter of time until investigators nabbed Harun.
