As preparations for for the Independence Day celebration in Nusantara in August are underway, the IKN Authority has requested an additional budget to the House of Representatives to manage all the infrastructure after it was handed over by the Public Works and Housing Ministry.
resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had a meeting with ministers at the Presidential Palace on Monday to discuss the readiness of the new capital city Nusantara to hold the Independence Day ceremony on Aug. 17.
The meeting also discussed the progress of the the city’s construction, of which Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy said the progress had reached 90 percent.
“Transportation Minister [Budi Karya Sumadi] reported that [progress] is over 90 percent,” Muhadjir said at the Presidential Palace, as reported by cnnindonesia.com.
He said that the toll road from Balikpapan to Nusantara was almost complete and would be operational in July.
The airport in Nusantara would also be ready in July, he said, allowing visitors to fly directly to the new capital instead of flying to Balikpapan and continuing with road travel.
Muhadjir said everything had been prepared meticulously and denied that Nusantara was being prepared in a rush.
“It is being done in a hasty way as it has been prepared for some time,” he said.
