entre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) cofounder Jusuf Wanandi has received the Achmad Bakrie Award for his work in social thought, democracy and international relations.

Jusuf, who is the vice chair of the CSIS Foundation’s board of trustees, was among this year's four award recipients deemed to have been inspirational and exemplary in their accomplishments in the fields of social thought, literature, health and science. A special award was also given for a young scientist in an event in South Jakarta on Thursday.

“Jusuf is an intellectual whose work has been significant in the field of social thought in Indonesia, especially in matters of democracy, governance and international relations,” chairman of the award organizing committee Aninditha Anestya Bakrie, who is also a granddaughter of Achmad Bakrie, said in a press release.

The Achmad Bakrie Awards are given annually by the Bakrie Family. Achmad Bakrie was the father of businessman and Golkar Party politician Aburizal Bakrie.

This year, the award for literature was given to Madurese writer Zawawi Imron, while science and technology was awarded to Afriyanti Sumboja, a researcher whose work has been leading in developing next-generation batteries.

Virologist Harapan, who is known for his contributions to dengue virus studies and public vaccine campaigns, was presented with the award for medicine.
