asDem party executive Ahmad Sahroni has stepped down as the head of the campaign team for Ridwan Kamil's gubernatorial bid in Jakarta, only a day after he was appointed to the position.
Sahroni said he resigned from the post because he was asked by NasDem chairman Surya Paloh to "help" another party member in November's regional head elections.
"I received another task from the party. My principle is I will carry out whatever tasks are given to me by the party chairman," he said on Monday as reported by Kompas.com.
Sahroni gave an assurance that NasDem would continue to support Ridwan's gubernatorial ticket despite his resignation from the campaign team.
"[My resignation] is a normal part of politics. The NasDem party remains strong in the coalition [backing Ridwan’s candidacy], nothing changes," he said.
Ridwan of the Golkar party is backed by a grand alliance of 12 parties, collectively known as the Onward Indonesia Coalition (KIM) Plus.
