ndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) matriarch Megawati Soekarnoputri is going to meet with incoming president Prabowo Subianto in the near future, a high-ranking party official has said.

Since winning a landslide victory in February’s presidential election, Gerindra Party patron Prabowo has moved fast to reach out to rivals, including the PDI-P, to bring more parties into his governing coalition.

Only the PDI-P, which is poised to retain the House of Representatives speakership after winning the largest share of House seats in February, has yet to decide whether it will support or oppose the Prabowo administration.

PDI-P executive Puan Maharani said a meeting between Megawati and Prabowo was bound to happen sometime soon, but the date had yet to be determined.

“[They will meet] as soon as possible, at the most appropriate time," Puan told reporters on Tuesday, adding that she had met with the incumbent defense minister several times to discuss potential cooperation.

She further noted that the PDI-P was open to being part of the next government, pointing out that communication between the two parties had been ongoing since the election.

“God willing, there’s nothing impossible," Puan said when asked about the possibility of the PDI-P joining the big-tent party coalition.
