The government is preparing the Nusantara International Airport in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) to receive the Boeing Business Jet 2 presidential aircraft, with the airport construction expected to be completed by the end of this year to receive even larger aircraft.
ransportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that the Nusantara International Airport in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) was being prepared for the trial landing of a larger aircraft to support regional development and enhance air transportation access.
"After the landing of the RJ85 presidential aircraft at the end of September, the Nusantara Airport will again conduct a trial landing for a larger aircraft type," Budi said when inspecting the airport’s construction progress in East Kalimantan on Sunday, as quoted by the Antara news agency.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo arrived for the first time at the airport on board a BAe 146-200 presidential aircraft on Sept. 24, of which the landing he said was “smooth”.
Budi noted that the construction of the Nusantara International Airport is progressing rapidly, saying that the runway is now 2,200 meters long and 45 meters wide.
The BAe 146-200 quadjet, made by British Aerospace, is also known as the Avro RJ85. The runway length at Nusantara is more than enough for a BAe-146-200, which needs a takeoff distance of 1,390 m with a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 42,184 kilograms. The aircraft’s landing distance is 1,190 m.
The Public Works and Housing Ministry is working to thicken the runway, targeting completion by Oct. 10, Budi said.
He added that the Transportation Ministry will again verify the runway's suitability for larger aircraft landings.
