View all search resultsJessica has persistently maintained her innocence since she was accused of lacing Wayan Mirna Salihin's coffee with cyanide in 2016.
essica Kumala Wongso, who was found guilty of the premeditated murder of her friend Wayan Mirna Salihin at a coffee shop in Central Jakarta in 2016, has filed a petition to the Supreme Court to reassess her conviction.
The Central Jakarta District Court sentenced Jessica to 20 years in prison in October 2016 for the crime, but she was recently released on parole after only serving eight years in jail.
Jessica's lawyer Otto Hasibuan said his client decided to file a judicial review over her conviction because she wants to prove that she was not guilty of Mirna’s death.
"We have several new pieces of evidence in the case and we feel that the judges made a mistake in their ruling," Otto said on Wednesday as reported by Kompas.com.
Among the evidence that will be presented to the court is new CCTV footage from Olivier Cafe in Grand Indonesia Mall where Mirna died.
Otto said the CCTV footage of the crime scene that was presented by prosecutors during Jessica's trial was misleading and had caused the judges to make the wrong decision in the case.
