Plane crashes in Gorontalo, killing all four aboard

A DHC-6 twin turboprop aircraft operated by SAM Air crashed on Sunday morning outside Bumi Panua Airport in Gorontalo's Pohuwato regency, killing all four people aboard.

our people were killed on Sunday morning when the DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft they were traveling in crashed in Pohuwato regency, Gorontalo.

The twin-engine turboprop plane, operated by SAM Air, took off on Sunday at 7:03 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (6:03 a.m. in Jakarta) from Gorontalo regency’s Djalaluddin Airport and was expected to arrive at around 7:33 a.m. at Bumi Panua Airport in Pohuwato.

Contact with the SAM Air plane was lost minutes before its scheduled arrival time and it was reported to have crashed near the destination airport.

Heriyanto, head of the Gorontalo Search and Rescue Agency, said the agency received a report from AirNav Makassar around 9 a.m. regarding the crash.

“The SAM Air aircraft’s last contact was with AirNav Makassar, and we received information that it had crashed near Bumi Panua Airport in Pohuwato,” Heriyanto said on Sunday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

Lukman F. Laisa, the Transportation Ministry’s acting civil aviation director general, said his office was coordinating with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and relevant parties on investigating the incident.
