Police probe fires in NTT deadly village brawl

A forensics team has gathered evidence from the site of the clash that left two dead and 51 homes burned, while the local Social Affairs Office has distributed aid to the 52 affected families.

he Bali Police have deployed a team from its Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) to investigate 51 houses that were burned during a deadly clash between residents of two villages in West Adonara district in East Flores regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"The forensics team from the Bali Police is examining the scene of the house fires in Bugalima village," First Insp. Iptu Edi Purnomo Wijayanto, head of criminal investigation at the NTT Police, said Monday, as quoted by Kompas.com, adding that the team started its work on Sunday.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Anang Kusnadi, who is leading the Bali Police Labfor team, said its task was to determine the cause of the fire, and that the team had collected dozens of pieces of evidence related to the fire.

"After collecting the samples, we will take them [back to] the laboratory for a detailed analysis," he said.

Early in the morning on Oct. 21, the residents of Ile Pati and Bugalima were involved in a clash that left two people dead, four injured and 51 houses burned.

One person died from burns, while another died from a gunshot wound, according to the police.

Meanwhile, 20 out of 27 individuals detained in connection with the incident have been named as suspects.
