T

he National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has sent logistical and health aid to people affected by a recent series of eruptions of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

East Flores Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Fredy Maot Aeng said the agency had sent essential foods, hygiene kits, corrugated iron sheets, tarpaulins, tents, mattresses and blankets for distribution to victims, among other emergency items.

“This is the first batch of aid from the BNPB. It arrived on Monday,” Fredy told kompas.com.

The official said the aid would be distributed across seven villages in the districts of Wulanggitang and Ilebura.

The eruptions have also damaged at least 289 houses in the nearby regency of Sikka.

The volcano’s most recent eruption, on Tuesday at 3:28 a.m., spewed a 700-meter-high volcanic ash column, the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) reported.
