The infant, named Agustinus Gibran Raka Tapung, was born to Katarina Kwuta, 25, at the Lewolaga community health center (puskesmas) on Wednesday morning, one day before the Vice President made his visit to Kobasoma.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka greeted a newborn named after him on Thursday while visiting people taking refuge from the eruptions of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in Kobasoma village, East Flores regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The infant, named Agustinus Gibran Raka Tapung, was born to Katarina Kwuta, 25, at the Lewolaga community health center (puskesmas) on Wednesday morning, one day before the Vice President made his visit to Kobasoma.
The baby’s father, 35-year-old Paulus Tapun, expressed his gratitude to Gibran for visiting them and the other evacuees, who fled their homes in response to the volcanic eruption. Authorities recently expanded the danger zone radius to 9 kilometers from the volcano’s crater in some directions.
“Pak Gibran told us to take good care of Gibran,” Paulus said while holding back tears, as quoted by Antara.
After greeting the infant, the Vice President led a coordination meeting, attended by officials including Public Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar Sirait, Indonesian Army commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto, National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) head Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, interim NTT governor Andriko Noto Susanto and acting East Flores regent Sulastri Rasyid.
Gibran said authorities should provide sufficient food for the evacuees, particularly the elderly, pregnant and nursing mothers, children and disabled people.
