Listyo urged residents who evacuated to the neighboring Sikka regency to return to East Flores regency to cast their votes for the Nov. 27 regional election.
ational Police chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo assured survivors of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption in East Flores regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), that they would still be able to exercise their right to vote in the Nov. 27 regional election.
"We have discussed the people's right to vote on Nov. 27, and special polling stations will be prepared for them," Listyo said when visiting an evacuation post on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.
This special polling stations will ensure that all evacuees, including those displaced in other areas, can vote.
Commenting on residents who evacuated to the neighboring Sikka regency, Listyo urged them to come home and cast their votes at the special polling station set up in East Flores regency.
Meanwhile, NTT General Elections Commission (KPU) member Baharuddin Hamzah said several special polling stations had been arranged to accommodate affected residents and ensure their participation in the election.
"There are six confirmed evacuation camps. These six locations will serve as the points where the East Flores KPU provides voter services on election day," Baharudin said in East Flores on Monday, as quoted by Kompas.
Baharudin said that following a coordination meeting with relevant stakeholders, it was determined that two districts, Wulanggitang and Ile Bura, were affected by the eruption.
