A

mid rising concerns about police brutality and a growing demand for accountability, the National Police dismissed over 240 officers nationwide last year for reasons ranging from ethical misconduct to murders.

The West Java police dismissed 64 officers in 2024 for committing a number of "serious violations". The figure marks a 64 percent increase compared with 2023, when some 39 police officers were fired from the force.

According to West Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Akhmad Wiyagus, the officers were dismissed because they abandoned their duties or committed criminal offenses such as sexual assaults, domestic violence and drug abuse.

"The decision to dishonorably discharge these officers demonstrates the West Java Police's commitment to impose strict punishment on any policeman who is found guilty of violating the police's disciplinary and ethical rules or engaging in criminal activities," he said on Tuesday as reported by Kompas.id.

One of the officers of the West Java Police, identified only as Second Brig. AA, made headlines in the past week after he allegedly physically assaulted his girlfriend.

He was arrested by the West Java Police on Dec. 24 and is currently undergoing an ethical and criminal probe.
